Getting to know each other better
Anastasiia Rusavska, Head of Recruitment and HR
Anastasiia Rusavska, Head of Recruitment and HR Data Science UA, has over 7 years of experience in recruitment and HR. During this time, she has become a true expert; and this is not just a buzzword. You learn best by doing, so that’s how Anastasiia grew to become a top manager: she built the recruitment and HR function in the company from scratch and implemented it herself. ‘I started with recruitment as one of the first options for development, and then realised that this is what I was good at,’ says Anastasiia, ’so I decided to continue building my career in this area. In 2020, I became a lead, which had a dramatic impact on my further development. Since 2022, I have been managing three teams and verticals in HR/Recruiting/Operations.’
Anastasiia’s strong time management skills, organisational skills, ability to prioritise, manage several areas simultaneously and work to tight deadlines helped her cope with this workload. ‘Our company is growing rapidly. We are proud to have been developing the Data Science community in Ukraine and Europe for many years. It brings together all researchers, engineers, and developers from related fields. We organise events on machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, data analytics, AI application in various business areas, etc.’
The main driver of Anastasiia’s professional development is communication: building warm relationships with the team, candidates and clients, sharing experience with others and establishing a ‘connection’ at a higher level of understanding.
Today, the recruitment community is increasingly discussing the topic of emotional burnout: Anastasiia doubted her career choice only once, but changing companies gave her a new impetus for further development.
Anastasiia joined Data Science UA more than 5 years ago, when the company had just started to develop in the recruitment market: there were about 10 people on the staff. Today, the company employs more than 80 specialists. ‘I am proud of the company and the team. And also, that after so many years I still love recruiting and closing vacancies,’ she says, ’And, of course, the greatest pleasure is the offer and long-term relationships when candidates come back in 2-3-5 years for advice and recognise me as a professional, just like they do.
How recruitment works at Data Science UA
Data Science UA focuses on AI solution development and consulting. Nevertheless, the recruitment services are not limited to AI or Data Science specialists: the company’s experts fill vacancies all over the world and find the best candidate on request, regardless of the level and specialisation.
‘We know almost all the engineers and developers working with data, so we are always the first to know about new job openings or candidates looking for work. This allows us to help engineers find interesting projects, and companies to use recruitment services and find talented specialists who do not apply on job search sites,’ Anastasiia shares her experience. According to her, the team knows the market well, so they can find any candidate for any project and vice versa. ‘We are involved in all hiring processes: from finding candidates and checking their soft and hard skills to receiving offers. We are evangelists of effective communication. We do our best to find the perfect match between the candidate and the company.’
Today, the recruitment team consists of 6 people. On average, 15-20 vacancies are processed per month, but this figure varies. 70% of vacancies are at the Senior/Lead level. There is a lot of direct search, as there are fewer classic requests than non-standard ones. But networking within our global community, recommendations, and the career portal work well.
Results with CleverStaff
In general, at Data Science UA, we have always used professional ATSs.
In 2022, we started looking for a more convenient and understandable system in terms of interface. The process of transferring the database to CleverStaff took some time. After all, the amount of our data was much larger than the migration template could fit.
The main goal was to ensure comfort in daily work, reduce time for routine tasks and have access to basic analytics. The team quickly felt a positive effect thanks to the user-friendly plugin, which saved a lot of time. But despite the fact that the interface was clear, it still took some getting used to.
It took us almost a year to get to grips with analytics, as we needed to accumulate data to understand how it works in the system and what was missing or lacking. We hope that there will be even more customised reports in the future. But fellow recruiters are generally positive about the software option. And, of course, the CleverStaff support team is one of the best, responding promptly to all our requests.
Among other advantages:
- Saving the history of communication with colleagues and candidates saves time on explanations. This helps you work with vacancies, including complex ones.
- The availability of software facilitates business processes in recruitment, giving them shape and structure.
- ATS helps to create a corporate culture within the recruitment team – from letter templates to analytical reports.
Future plans
Despite the difficult situation in Ukraine, Data Science UA is actively expanding its team.
The company plans to expand its presence on the international market in terms of all its services, as Europe and America face a shortage of qualified engineers specialising in complex and highly specialised technologies. Currently, the Data Science UA team is working to convince the world that it is safe to work with Ukraine. In this context, it is not only about recruiting, but also about the communication component – publishing relevant materials in Western media, participating in professional international conferences, etc.
‘International cooperation supports our country’s economy. However, in order to attract the best specialists in these difficult times, it is important to understand that companies with a ‘human face’ will always have an advantage in the competition for talent. And our team is exactly that,’ Anastasiia adds with a smile.
